Women into Media

Aims; To develop friendships and an exchange between women who would not normally come into contact with one another. To promote access to the arts.

To celebrate cultural diversity and promote understanding and respect, using media creatively to offer insights into one anothers lives.

To build a visual and dynamic catalogue documenting current issues that affect us.

To share aspirations for change.

To promote wellbeing through creative activities.

With an emphasis on photography we will also explore combining arts and creative writing.

Join and follow us on Facebook. Please contact me if you would like to come along to any of our media workshops, or would like to know more.

Women into Media (Hull and East Riding) is a group of women aiming to develop, promote skills learning and access to photography (and visual arts) through regular meetings and online sharing.

Inspired by our involvement in the successful grassroots international Wilberforce Women project we wish to continue and evolve our visual arts base in Kingston upon Hull and the East Riding.

We are open to all who are interested in the arts, novice and professionals alike.

We actively encourage women from Hull's twin and sister cities who share our interest in photography and media to link to our Women into Media page;

Freetown, Sierra Leone; Reykjavik, Iceland; Szczecin, Poland; Niigata, Japan; Raleigh, North Carolina, USA and Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

A bit more about us: Our aim is to create an environment where mutual respect and consideration for each other is paramount. To create a safe space for women to gain confidence in their creativity and also take time out from busy and/or diffcult lives. Our local workshops and trips offer conversation, are easy going, fun and also can offer you the opportunity to find a 'quiet place and just be' should you wish. In a sense we go on 'retreat' when we meet up, offering those who come along time away from everyday responsibilitles. Creating this kind of 'space' wasn't an intentional aim, however through our project work, has evolved so. We have found this offers true opportunities to develop and explore our creative processes, writing, photography or just thinking! This is the atmosphere we promote and enjoy and it isn't for everyone. We welcome enquiries from women who would like to come along for a 'taster ' to see if this approach 'fits'. It may not and that's ok too!"
